09/06/2004: "Jumping Shrimps - or do shrimps jump?"
![]()
Ok - so what does jump on the seashore?
Walking near Kessingland last night along the beach on one of our walks (see also the link left for more pics) ... whilst walking along the shore, on the firmer sand (easier on the feet and legs
) - we came across things that seemed to jump.
Dave reckons they are a type of shrimp - but they are tiny. The beach was full of them - it was the first time EVER that I had come across them.
Do you know what they are? Could they be a type of shrimp?
Please leave a comment and let us know - if you know.

I remember the jumping shrimps - when I was growing up in Kessingland we knew them as sand-hoppers - a kind of crustacean I think. As I recall they lived on the seaweed and other marine detritus washed up on the shore. If you turn over a wodge of weed you will likely disturb hundreds of them. I came across your web-site by chance and liked it. I couldn't agree more about the "sod you" mentality today - the inconsiderate parking and yobs at the boating lake - and it seems to be getting worse.
