11/04/2004: "Insurgents"
I am uncomfortable with the continued use of the word 'insurgents' as used often and frequently by the British media when used to refer to Iraqi's.
Definition = ( http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=Insurgents )
1. Rising in revolt against established authority, especially a government.
2. Rebelling against the leadership of a political party.
Quite clearly, as according to the above definition, the word is being used incorrectly. There is no established authority in Iraq (1) nor are Iraqi's rebelling against a leadership (2).
If Iraq was France, would we be calling Iraqi's "The Resistance" for trying to protect their own country from foreign invaders?
