Kensington Gardens - Worst Ladies Loo in the COUNTRY

Earlier this month I added pictures I had taken at Kensington Gardens ... stating how they had been (in my opinion of course) totally be ruined by lack of interest/work.

To add insult to injury, Kensington Gardens were voted by the readers of Take a Break magazine as being the "Most revolting ladies' loo in the country".

Waveney District Council - you MUST hang your head in shame.

Too add even more insult to injury, a statement in The Journal (dated Apr 23. 04) states that a council spokesman (David Holland) said (and I quote) "The toilets were about 100 years old" but added that "they were cleaned on a daily basis".

WERE about 100 years old???? I rest my case!

To add even more insult to injury, most people using bowling facilities at Kensington Gardens are said to leave the gardens to have to walk to another public convenience ..... and I have heard even that is in poor repair - with water often covering the floor .... nasty.

------------------

About 10 years ago we were twinned with a place in Holland, Katwijk Aan Zee - this Dutch little town, lovely place I must add, decided to break the alliance off between themselves and Lowestoft. Various reasons were given, but if memory serves me well, at that time, a member from the council made themselves look stupid (again, in my opinion) by stating something like ..... well, at least we have good public conveniences ....

ROTFL ....... eat your words!

Snake in the grass .....

The weather today was quite simply glorious! Sunny, warm and blue skies. Beach weather in fact - so we decided to go inland yet again.

We ended up at Westleton Heath .... near historic Dunwich. This Link gives you more information about the Heath.

We walked for over 2 hours ... it was hot, very hot - jackets came off and we sweltered in the hot sun! Just as well we had bottles of drink with us! Just in case you wondered, the drinks were non-alchoholic!! shocked

All in all it was an instructional walk (and oh boy - do my legs ache). I almost saw a lizard - Dave saw it and I was just too late. There were all kinds of things ... zillions of pine cones, wild tiny violet flowers, unusual wasps and much more but .... I think it was the highlight of my day .... wink was it?

I actually saw an Adder snake - the first one I have ever seen in the wild. I will not be going far off the track with these things around! The strange thing is the colour - in real life the adder seemed to have a light olive green colour - this does not really show in the pic below.

As soon as I saw its head going back .... it was time to move. I've seen those snake programmes and that snake did not like me one little bit. RETREAT !! crying

Hello

Its Thursday and Summer is obviously here! Why? Because the power boat racing has started again in Oulten Broad. The sound of the boats going round and round .... and that's from here in Pakefeild - miles away! A nice evening out if you are on holiday in this area ...

Last night we went to Asda supermarket in Gt Yarmouth again. As anyone who knows me will tell you, I really, really hate supermarket shopping and try to avoid it. However, due to the really pleasant staff, it was again another enjoyable experience!

Diary Entry: Beach Hut count and mist

music: Watching the News
mood: Cold ... is that a mood?

We just had a walk to the Co-op shop in Kirkley! Yes I know is a really long way to walk and we even have a Co-op here too, but our local one does not have that Ovaltine Light drink .... yummmm

There are now 6 beach huts up just under the Cefas building - but none closer towards the Claremont. I wonder why.

It is cold this evening - where is my chin? I can hardly feel it at all ......... bbbrrrrrrrr - It feels like winter ... with the cold mist rolling inland. The Fog Horn was heard too.

I am now cooking diced chicken (adding curry sauce later) which will go nicely with boiled rice and a few oven chips.

Rat or Vole ?

What do you think? Are the pictures below of a rat or a vole?

My brother has a webcam in his garden ( http://www.gazzy.f9.co.uk ) and there has been quite some discussion as to what this animal is ....

Kensington Gardens

I have many fond memories of what Kensington Gardens used to be like. Many benches to sit on around the park and around the water, the fish in the water (instead of the algae), standing on the wooden bridge and counting the fish and throwing in the odd penny to make a wish. Having a wander round to look at the birds - haaa the days of innocence.

Yet again it seems that due to lack of maintenance/repair - many of these delightful features no longer exist. I took a picture the other evening, which could, with a bit of imagination, remind you of the fairy tale and lovely place it once was ......

Oh ... also take a quick look at the boating pond on the picture below (I'll try to capture this on my brother's new camera which can take video). This pond is going to be removed and will make way for a brand new bandstand in its place.

Updating this Weblog Layout

music: None - I'm watching golf (The Masters)
mood: Elated

Yep - I'm elated at finally getting around to sorting out the layout of this weblog into something I like. So I am really happy about that.

I have several photos of Kensington Gardens to add, but I'll do that tomorrow now.

I just hope that any readers find this weblog easy enough to find their way around.

See you tomorrow

The First of the Summer Season

Well, just got back from a walk to the Claremont pier and back. We've done this every night for the last 7 days except yesterday. Since then it happened :O

Yep - the first beach hut of the season has been put up! :) Summer, or more rightly, Easter is almost upon us.

Seeing the beach huts being set up reminds us that summer and the tourist season is almost upon us. Its just a shame not more is done to enhance the facilities around the beach promenade area.

Unfortunately even near Tides reach where they (the council and therefore us council tax payers) paid a lot of money to put in lovely stones ... which over time need to be repaired .... with can you beleive it - black nasty tar!!! .. Honest !!! Shame its being ruined by lack of upkeep!

The weather is so changeable it was nice and warm walking towards the Claremont but on the way back would you believe we got caught out by the hail storm and were soaked through by the time we got home :doze: Never mind .... just one of those things

So - we are now looking forward to seeing how many huts will be put up between now and the Easter weekend ..... let's hope for some dry weather ...
:)
