Christmas

music: None

Ok .... so Christmas day has come and gone and now there is only 365 days til next Christmas (its a leap year next year!).

I think I have discovered one of the main advantages of children ..... they do washing up after the Christmas dinner - I always knew there must be a reason for having them around shocked

Well, I had a good Christmas and I hope you did too!

Snow or Sand

music: Total Madness .... the best of
mood: OK

SnowBeach (17k image)

Just a few moments ago I went outside to take this photo - and then it suddenly got dark and started to hail. It really did get as dark as shown on this photo - which incidently looks from Pakefield towards Kessingland. I wonder how long the snow will remain lying on the beach .....

ps The sun has just started to shine ... smile

Catitude

music: Watchin the X-files on Sky
mood: Bemused .... and amused

Cats really are strange animals .... as you may have read, we have a cat who can be really generous with her food, providing she is allowed to slap the other cat on the way out - she knows exactly where to sit and wait strategically. confused

Just a few minutes ago a frequent visitor arrived, a lovely ginger cat who is only interested in a bite to eat and a place to be left alone and sleep for a few hours - which is fine. But today, that he is showing Treacle just what not to do!!! Climbing over bits of furniture my Treacle had not thought of climbing and he is now just sitting at the window, looking innocent.

Treacle is just sitting at the doorway (the only exit from the room) looking at him - and learning.

The main problem is that I cleaned and polished yesterday .... why do cats have such darned mucky paws and has anybody managed to teach them how to clean their paws before entering a house??? crying

Fog .... and driving

music: none
mood: Getting hungry ...

Driving home earlier today made me wonder if everybody obtained their driving licences from the same place. I know I passed my test in Holland, but I would assume the majority of people here in Lowestoft, passed their driving exam in the UK.

So:

Why do so many people drive with their fog lights on .... and generally at the slightest hint of any fog sleepy

Why do some people not have any lights on whatsoever confused and why do some of those even try to overtake every other vehicle on the road??

What's the hurry ... better 5 minutes late than not at all rolls eyes

Fog horns

music: None
mood: Contemplative .... relaxed

Do you live near the coast? Does the sound of a fog horn drive you insane or does it somehow make you feel happy and content knowing you are inside and safe ....??

I haven't been able to see the sea today ... the fog horn has been blasting away all day. For some reason, I like the sound of the horn .... In my imagination its bringing people in safely from the sea.

Toot .... toot .... toot .... toot (then a wait of approx 30 seconds)

Did you know that the sound of a foghorn can provide sailors with their location around the coast? Each port has a different sequence of toots .... A great invention, before radar!

Going shopping .... a trip to Norwich

music: Still none
mood: Hmmmm good - roast is smelling great

How many speed cameras are there in this country??? Just en route to Norwich I passed 5 of those yellow boxes - theoretically placed to enhance safety - 2 of them have been placed where its just not possible to speed anyway (mainly due to traffic jams) and one of those had been defaced (with a smiley face!) smile <-- Just like that

In the city you see some strange sights ..... luxury or what! Its just as well I was a passenger as a car in the next lane had what looked to be a TV for the passengers in the back seat (it could of been a DVD) - flippin' bloody amazing. Is that to keep the kids happy??? The picture appeared to be really clear. I'd never actually seen one of those before ...... amazing. I never did work out what was showing ..... do all BMWs come with this as added option these days?

Fly Tipping

music: None
mood: Its Sunday - Lunch is cooking .... so good

I was watching one of those Country File programmes this morning - and the show asked the public to identify some people who were fly tipping. The Council in question seemed rather upset that fly-tipping was occuring. This reminded me of an incident I had not so long ago - and perhaps goes someway to explain why fky-tipping happens .....

I phoned the local council and asked them about collection of waste. I was advised that 3 items would be required and that it would cost me £17.50 to have these items removed.

No problem. I waited until I had 3 items then telephoned the council to arrange collection of these items which included .....

1x old bicycle frame
1x faulty washer/dryer
1x old storage heater

The council asked me what the items were - and would you believe it, 2 of the 3 items above they would not collect!!!

What was I to do? How could I get rid of this rubbish? I contacted the council (yet again) to ask their advice. The first time I spoke to them I became so annoyed at the person on the other end of the phone I put the phone down on her .... the reason???? The advice the council gave me included the following: .....

- look in the local paper
- get family to help get rid of it
- look in the yellow pages for a company to get rid of it
- hire a skip

Really, its no wonder some people to fly tip - its an easy option - not to mention cheap or free!

It would of been so much easier for me just to take the bike frame and just leave it somewhere!

The whole espisode left me angry at the council and eventually cost me £30 to get a local company to collect the 3 items ......

I thought the council were employed by the people to work for us, to help us, etc. etc. just goes to show how wrong you can be .....

ps - I have had dealings with the Parks department within the council and have found them to be friendly, understanding, sympathetic, etc. etc. ... perhaps they should be given a badge. They cannot always help - but they do try to!!

The Darkness

music: Dunno really ... some kind of jazz on the TV
mood: hmmm a drink too many???

Just thought I would comment on the group that hails from Lowestoft, The Darkness.

Before I continue - well done lads ... about time somebody from this area gave them (anywhere) laldy .. let them know that people living in this area are people to be reckoned with!!

On the local news tonight it was announced that Justin (lead singer) was held by the police when he tried to leave the aeroplane at JFK airport.

blush smuggling??? confused drunk???? what else could it be ??? sad

Well, it appears that our Justin looks like a murderer who the cops in the USA have been trying to catch since July this year .... ROTFL ... hee hee ... just as well the Americans don't go to war too often isn't it ... the amount of errors they make with "mistaken identity" !!!!!

Watchdog and Websites

music: Norah Jones
mood: OK .... chilling now

Watchdog

This programme, allegedly focusing on standing up for basic consumer rights always has one, perhaps tiny item that leaves me niggled. Last night it was their Christmas related story errrr consumer issue. Apparently last year people voted for the town with the worst Christmas decorations ... why am I niggled? Did I know about this??? NO I DID NOT. plain

I would of put forward Lowestoft as being the place with the worst Christmas decorations - and to make it even worse, there was even an official turning on of the Christmas tree lights here in town !!! Small mercies I reckon, at least we do have a Christmas tree.

The decorations on the other hand are totally shambolic ... they (whoever they are) have got a few strings of coloured lightbulbs from one side of the shops to the other - at what appears to be 150m intervals. There is also naff plastic snowmen and plastic green Xmas trees attached once in a while. These are already falling apart. As my digi camera again has working batteries perhaps a pic soon ...

Christmas .... bah humbug - none of that festive stuff in our town centre please. It just will not do for the shoppers. shocked
